Karlen has more than 20 years of IT experience, including his most recent position as a cyber security incident commander for Secureworks, where he guided senior leadership through managing business impacts and mitigating risks. Prior to that, Karlen led a global team of program managers, engineers, and consultants responsible for the success of implementation, training, tuning, and operations. He is certified as a Project Management Professional, GIAC Certified Incident Handler, and ITIL v3 Expert. His academic journey took him to Texas Tech University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, followed by a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas. Additionally, his professional engagements extend to affiliations with the Information Systems Audit and Control Association and the International Information System Security Certification Consortium. His mastery extends across diverse industries: construction, energy, family offices, manufacturing, distribution, private equity, real estate, and technology. Within these realms, he specializes in delivering technology advisory services and assuming roles as interim CIO/CISO, a testament to his multifaceted skill set.
