Calvetti Ferguson (CF) is currently seeking an Engineering Specialist to join our Tax Incentives practice. As an Engineering Specialist, the ideal candidate will prepare effective supporting documentation related to Energy Efficient Building incentives (Sec. 179D), Research & Development (R&D) credits, Cost Segregation studies, and Employee Retention (ERC) credits. This is often unfamiliar territory for businesses that may not have the personnel or resources needed to complete the detailed analysis required to receive these impactful tax incentives. Our team has developed an effective approach that includes the use of various analyzer and optimization tools. This position will be charged with handling, organizing, and driving complex computations from large data sets and assisting in communications with client personnel having both technical and financial / tax backgrounds. Additionally, the ideal candidate will organize the documentation needed for these incentives and create the final deliverables that will be provided to clients to document the results obtained.


  • Participate in R&D, Cost Segregation, and ERC tax consulting projects;
  • Participate in Energy Efficient Building tax incentive (sec. 179D) studies;
  • Assist with conducting interviews of highly specialized client personnel with deep technical backgrounds and expertise;
  • Review documentation related to commercial building construction to conduct detailed analysis of the HVAC, interior lighting, building envelope, and other building systems;
  • Develop and sustain excellent client relationships during delivery of services;
  • Assist others with quality assurance, engagement review, and tax authority examination support;
  • Perform technical tax law research and apply it to client facts and circumstances;
  • Travel up to 25%;
  • Work with general tax personnel and assist in teaching them about aspects of tax incentives projects.


  • Minimum 18 months of experience, preferably in the building design / construction industry, or alternatively, mechanical engineering;
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university; preferably in engineering, architecture, or construction;
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills with the ability to evaluate and articulate complex information;
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and use of research databases;
  • Experience working with and delivering projects to external clients is a plus;
  • Experience with building modeling software such as AutoCAD, EnergyPlus, eQuest, etc. is a plus;
  • EIT certification with a desire to pursue a PE license is a plus!; and
  • Desire to give back to your community
