Houston, TX (June 28, 2016) – Managing Partner, Jason Ferguson, sat down with the Houston Business Journal to answer a few questions regarding the firm’s plans for 2016 and beyond. Read the article about the expansion to the Woodlands and San Antonio just a couple years prior.

Calvetti Ferguson’s client portfolio is about 70 percent oil and gas related. An outsider might say that the Houston-based accounting firm is in for a bumpy 2016, but ask its leadership and you’ll hear a very different answer.

Oil prices are having an impact, mostly in requests for fee cuts from clients. But it’s also creating new opportunities for Calvetti Ferguson, said Jason Ferguson, managing partner of the firm.

“When companies are looking for creative ways to save money and bridge a gap in the downturn that means they’re open to new service providers,” Ferguson told the HBJ. “It’s an opportunity for us to grow market share.”

Couple that with an active M&A strategy, and Calvetti Ferguson is poised to grow this year. Already, Calvetti Ferguson gained Mike Karlins, formerly of Karlins, Ramey & Tompkins LLC, after his team merged into Calvetti Ferguson at the beginning of the year. And Ferguson expects to make an acquisition in San Antonio, where it already has an office, in the next three months.

“There are other firms that aren’t able to take advantage of the opportunity or are struggling a bit. When times are rough, companies start to fall apart,” Ferguson said.

In addition to existing markets, such as the Woodlands or San Antonio, Ferguson wants Calvetti Ferguson to expand into new cities, as well. He’s been eyeing Dallas-Fort Worth as a natural extension of Calvetti Ferguson’s Texas presence, but he also has Denver and Pittsburgh on his radar.

“It gives us opportunity to be more aggressive to get into other markets,” Ferguson said.

Calvetti Ferguson ranked No. 19 on the 2015 Houston Business Journal’s Largest Houston Area Accounting Firm List with 28 area CPAs, according to HBJ Research.
